One of the most popular funding options is Medicare, which provides access to subsidized therapy through the Better Access initiative. This page focuses on what's available nationally and in each state, as well as how psychologists and clients can get extra private sessions when medicare isn't enough.


National Funding Options

1- Medicare

  • Subsidizes up to 10 mental health therapy sessions annually, plus and extra 5 more for chronic disease 
  • There are different categories for pain, obesity (but not for over snacking), 
  • Eligibility: Australian residents or others with a valid Medicare card.
  • Coverage: Sessions with psychologists, social workers, and occupational therapists.

2- Private Insurance

  • Many private insurers provide rebates for mental health therapy.

3- ATSIHC (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Care)
